END OF LIFE MATTERS - Rev. Keith LaBove
Whose life is it, anyway? Must we do everything? Who decides? Does a living will help? These and other questions will be discussed at a seminar to be offered by Fr. Keith LaBove, Pastor of St. Patrick Church and long-time hosptial chaplain. We will explore basic church teaching on the stewardship of life and end of life care, look at some specific issues that arise, and talk about advanced directives. This one night session will be repeated at 4 locations: Tuesday, August 1 (6:00-7:30pm): St. Michael the Archangel Church Parish Hall, Crowley; Wednesday, August 2 (6:00-7:30 pm): St. Patrick Church, Lafayette; Tuesday, August 8 (6:00-7:30pm): Holy Ghost Church Parish Hall, Opelousas; Wednesday, August 9 (6:00-7:30pm): Sacred Heart of Jesus Church Parish Hall, New Iberia. All are invited and welcome to attend any of the presentations. Pre-registration is not required and there is no cost to attend. MOTHERS' SEMINAR - Calling all moms of the Diocese of Lafayette! The Mother's Ministry of St. Pius X Church in Lafayette is hosting a seminar entitled "Intentional Serenity" from 8:30am to 2:30 pm on Saturday, August 12th. The seminar will be led by author, speaker, and Catholic mother of 10 children, Tami Kiser of South Carolina. Tami wrote Smart Martha's Catholic Guide for Busy Moms. FETE DIEU DU TECHE 2017
Boat registrations are now being accepted for everyone wishing to take part in Fete Dieu du Teche 2017, the annual Eucharistic Boat Procession down the Bayou Teche, sponsored by the Community of Jesus Crucified. The procession will take place on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, the Feast of the Assumption. The day begins at 8:00 am with Mass celebrated by Bishop Deshotel at St. Leo he Great Church in Leonville. A cavalcade of boats carrying the Holy Sacrament will then make their way down the Bayou T4eche, retracing the steps of our Acadian ancestors, toward St. Martinville. After stopping at Churches along the way for recitation of the Rosary and Benediction of the Holy Sacrament, participants will visit Notre Dame de Perpetuel Secours, St. Martin de Tours Church, and Mater Dolorosa Chapel for Solemn Vespers and Final Benediction. DIOCESE OF LAFAYETTE CENTENNIAL PILGRIMAGE TO CANADA
Join Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 6:30 pm at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Lafayette to find out how you can join him for the Diocese of Lafayette Centennial Pilgrimage to Canada. Bishop Deshotel will lead the Pilgrimage, which is scheduled for August 27-September 5, 2018, and which will include stops in Montreal, Quebec City, and Nova Scotia, including a visit to Grand Pre, the site of the famous Acadian Settlement. Our informational meeting is being held now to allow prospective pilgrims a chance to participate in an extended payment plan to help make the journey more affordable, and special discounts will be available to those who sign up early. Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers - known around the world as the "Dynamic Deacon", Deacon Harold is one of the most sought after speakers in the Church today. He is a powerful and passionate evangelist and preacher whose no-nonsense approach to living and proclaiming the Catholic faith is sure to challenge and inspire those who hear him.
Bishop Douglas Deshotel - born in Basile, LA. He studied at Holy Trinity Seminary and was ordained a priest on May 13, 1978 for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas. He previously served as Auxiliary Bishop of Dallas and was installed as the seventh bishop of the diocese of Lafayette on April 15, 2016.
Father Floyd Calais - a revered fixture of the Acadiana religious community for nearly 70 yars. He is a favorite speaker and spiritual director and is making a return appearance to the Men's Conference in 2017.
Father Joel Faulk - a native of Abbeville, Fr. Faulk was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Lafayette by Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel June 2016. His homilies and preaching are powerful and respected throughout the diocese.
Father Bryce Sibley, Emcee - a Lafayette diocesan priest for 17 years, Fr. Sibley has served as Master of Ceremonies for the conference since it's first edition in 2006. He is currently serving as pastor and chaplain of Our Lady of Widsom Church and Catholic Student Center on the Campus of the University of Louisiana @ Lafayette.
Annual Gospel Fest
Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 10am-4pm at the Basile Town Park. The goal of this event is to gather together to praise and worship as one body of Christ; to bring the message of Jesus Christ through music and testimonies; and to introduce our Lord to this hurting world. Music will be provided by Will Stevens, Word Ministries Praise Team, Bobby & Billy Johnson, Eight31, and Hunter Forman. Testimonies by several individuals will also be shared, to let others know what the Lord has done in their own lives. BBQ, drinks, funnel cakes, snow cones, and popcorn will be sold at this event.
